Genially for Training

The tool for engaging your learners

Instructional Designer, eLearning Developer, Training Specialist, … whatever your job title is, if you work within the learning and development sector, we all have the same goal: to create engaging learning material that is going to help our audience improve, reach learning objectives, and fill knowledge gaps.

In this microlearning course, we are going to see just how Genially can be the perfect tool to create and/or compliment your training material.

What is Genially?

For those of you who aren’t yet familiar with it, Genially is an all-in-one online tool for creating amazing interactive and animated content in a fast and easy way. It’s the versatility of the tool that sets Genially apart from the rest. We encourage you to explore all of the possibilities that Genially provides, but for now, let’s focus on how Genially is essential for every trainer’s toolbox.

Why should I create my training material with Genially?

Now that you know what Genially is, you might be asking yourself why it is so essential for a trainer’s toolbox.

Confucius said it best: “Tell me and I’ll forget, show me and I’ll remember, involve me and I’ll understand”.

With Genially, you can create not only a training module, but an immersive experience that lets your learner explore and interact in a hands-on way. In order to see how Genially can help take your training material to the next level, let’s use the most famous instructional systems design model, ADDIE.

Some of the most important questions to ask during this phase are related to who your learner/audience is and what are the learning objectives? Is the behavior that we want to change based on a knowledge gap, skill gap, or another factor?  going to change based on training or is there another solution?

How can you use Genially in this phase?

Use templates such as “Buyer Persona” and “Customer Profile” to perform a learner analysis in which to truly understand who your learners are and what their needs are, in a visual way, before starting to develop any type of course. This phase is essential as it is going to ensure that you design the type of training that your learners really need, and you aren’t wasting time and resources on an inadequate learning solution.

The design phase of instructional design is when you are going to develop the learning objectives, create storyboards, scripts, and graphic resources, as well as develop the strategy for the learning solution.

Have a look at the infographic templates such as “Canvas business model” and “Gantt chart” for templates that are going to assist you in the project management and design of your course.

With Genially, it’s easy to find graphic resources to accompany your training material from the integrated photobanks Unsplash and Pixabay as well as the gorgeous illustrations and scenes that you can find within the Resources menu. You can even easily upload your own designs into genially to ensure your course has a coherent look and feel or that it follows the brand identity guidelines of your company or client. The added benefit of using Genially for the design phase of your course is that you will already have all of your graphic resources and design laid out within the tool, all ready for the development phase.

Be sure to check out the course “Storyboards: Surprise with Interactive Sketches” in the To Design section of Genially Academy to learn more about storyboards and how to create interactive and animated storyboards with Genially.

This is the fun part of the instructional design model. The development phase is when we are going to put all of our analyses and resources together to develop our training material. Depending on the tools used, you may have had the experience of this phase needing to be completed by a team of technical developers. That is a thing of the past. Thanks to the predesigned templates and ease-of-use, anyone can rapidly develop engaging training material with Genially, regardless of their programming or graphic design background.

The type of material that you develop will vary depending on the results of your needs and audience analysis. With Genially, you are not limited in the type of creation you can make.

Perhaps your learners require a visual aide or a one-pager they can access for additional information, without the need for a full course. Infographics are the perfect solution here! Have a look at all the different template options and find the one you like best to personalize for your needs.

For technical or soft-skills training, a branched scenario is the perfect way to let your learners act as they would in the real world scenario, make decisions, and see the potential consequences of those decisions. Check out this example of a branched scenario that you can save and reuse as a template.

To offer alternatives for your learners to put their knowledge into practice, or to allow your learners the chance to show their knowledge before having to complete a course, make use of the gamification options available to you within Genially. You can opt for one of the gamification templates such as a game, quiz, or even a digital escape game to challenge and excite your learners.

When you’ve finished creating your training material, it’s time to share it with your learners. Once your creation is published, you can share it via link or iFrame code. Geniallys embed perfectly within most Learning Management Systems (LMS), so be sure to try embedding your courses within your favorite LMS and sharing it with the world.

If you are using a genially for Instructor-led Training (ILT), simply use the link or present from the panel directly to share your visual material that will serve as a complement to your in-person session.

To learn more about sharing your geniallys, be sure to check out the Genially Academy course “Share and download” within the To Master Genially section.

Of course, evaluation forms a part of every other phase within the ADDIE model. Be sure to test your training material at each stage and collect feedback from learners to ensure that the learning objectives are being met.

In order to collect learner feedback, you can embed an external questionnaire, such as a Typeform or Microsoft Form, directly into a genially and either share the link on your company’s sharepoint or embed it alongside the course in the LMS, thereby keeping everything together and organized.

Now you know a bit more about why Genially is an essential tool for any trainer. We’re sure that your learners are not only going to enhance their knowledge and skills, but they will have an entertaining and visual experience at the same time.

Thank you!
