Dossier and Reports

Data and results on another level

1 · What is it?

A dossier is a corporate presentation containing information about a product or service offered by a company, organization, institution, or school. It is an informative document, not a catalogue or pamphlet for publicity.

We can talk about two kinds of dossiers: web and editorial. A web dossier is related to the digital world in that it includes sliders, hover animations (when we hover the mouse over an object), etc. In the case of the editorial dossier, this is characterized by its varied layout within the document and little animation.

More than 3 hours

1.2·  Level of difficulty

2 · What are they used for?

A dossier is used to communicate information relative to a business, institution, organization, or school in a detailed way, usually to an audience that is not previously familiar with these groups. In this way, a dossier offers a professional and personalized service.

3 · Who is it useful for?

You can create a catalogue of your education center’s services such as extracurricular activities, course offerings, history, mission, vision and values, achievements, etc.

If you create Digital Content:

Make use of the dossier as a communication tool that contains information about a specific topic in the long-term.

If you are part of a Business:

4.1 · TEXT

Create consistency and organize hierarchically.

The content will have an average amount of  text, which will be complemented with visual information or even more text by making use of interactivity and layers. Organize it in a way that makes it visually attractive and easy to read for your audience.

Connect pages to facilitate navigation.

Interactivity is important for distributing the information in layers of digestible content. You can include buttons and markers to catch your audience’s attention and lead them to areas with extra content. Make use of tooltips and windows to expand upon the base information.  Connect some pages with others to facilitate the navigation through the dossier. .

Useful for keeping your audience’s attention.

Since dossiers are formal documents, animations should be used in moderation. Animations can be limited to only making areas of interactivity stand out, where your audience can expand upon the information thanks to layers of content.

You can also create a “waterfall” effect with entrance animations on each new page to give a visually appealing effect in which we see the elements appear one by one.

Enrich the visual information.

Make use of embedded elements such as video, timelines, PDFs, audio that enrich the dossier and make it more visually appealing.

Lighten the textual load.

Even though the text is one of the main protagonists of a dossier, remember to also include quality images (photographs, illustrations, …), videos, audios, and visual metaphors.

Standard Navigation.

We will select the navigation mode: presentation. You can add a transition effect similar to that of turning a page. Try using the transition “hang” within the entrance transition category “vertical”.

Add a base background.

Add backgrounds that will not distract your audience from the content you want to share. Choose a communicative tone for your dossier and be sure to use it consistently throughout. You can make use of the static or animated backgrounds, but use them in moderation. Your background can be infinite or within boundaries. Keep in mind that a background within boundaries makes the page transitions more visual.
